A Vision for Science: Prof. Viola Onwuliri Champions Bill for “Nigerian Institute of Chartered Biochemists and Molecular Biologists”
Abuja Nigeria, October 9, 2025: In a pivotal moment for Nigeria’s scientific community, Prof. Viola Onwuliri, the former supervising minister of foreign affairs and minister of state for education, today presented a compelling case at the National Assembly for the establishment of the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Biochemists and Molecular Biologists. Currently a distinguished professor of biochemistry at the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) and a proud native of Amuzi Mbaise, Prof. Onwuliri emphasized the necessity of a professional body dedicated to regulating and promoting the practice of biochemistry and molecular biology in Nigeria.
The proposed bill aims to establish standards for education and professional practice within these vital fields, facilitating significant advancements in research and development. Prof. Onwuliri articulated the institute’s mission to enhance public awareness regarding the crucial roles biochemistry and molecular biology play in health, industry, and environmental sustainability.
